With the same screen sizes, UJ7700 is sold about tens to hundreds dollar more expensive than UJ6300, depending on the sizes of the screen. So, what are the difference between then and the advantage of UJ7700 as a higher series than UJ6300? Let’s start to discuss side by side about their difference.
The Similarities and Difference between LG UJ7700 and UJ6300
Both of LG UJ6300 and UJ7700 are equally good TV when used at wide room with viewers watch TV from multiple viewing angles. This is due both of them use IPS panel technology where we all know, it offers better side viewing angle coverage than TVs with VA panel. Nevertheless, on the other hand, this makes their dark room performance is poor due their native contrast ratio is poor. Meanwhile, although their price cannot be said cheap, but both of LG UJ7700 and UJ6300 still support HDR where it is powered by Active HDR technology. Additionally, they also equally have Tru 4K Up-Scaler Engine for up-converting lower resolution videos to 4K and “HDR Effect” Feature for improving the brightness and color range of the images, so you can enjoy any video content with the quality close to close 4K HDR. Additionally, for maximizing their rendition of colors, both of them are equally supported by “True Color Technology”, makes the color of the picture displayed on their screen looks accurate. For handling motion blur and 24p movies, both of them are also equally powered by Tru Motion 120 Hz based on native 60 Hz refresh rate panel. And for allowing you to enjoy simple, responsive, and attractive smart TV experience, both of them feature WebOS 3.5 as their smart TV platform.
Although both of them come with the same panel technology but they have different backlight technology. LG UJ7700 use Edge Lit backlight with local dimming technology, while LG UJ6300 comes with direct LED backlight but doesn’t have local dimming technology. On the other hand, although both of them already support HDR technology, but UJ7700 support more HDR formats than UJ6300 where it already supports most of HDR formats like HDR 10, Dolby Vision, Advanced HDR and also HLG (with upcoming software update), while UJ6300 only supports HDR 10 and HLG (via upcoming software update). Still about picture performance, LG UJ7700 is already powered by Ultra Luminance while UJ6300 doesn’t have this technology. This makes picture displayed on the screen of UJ7700 looks brighter than UJ6300. The other difference, UJ7700 also already supports wide color gamut while UJ6300 doesn’t support. This makes the color of the picture displayed on the screen of UJ7700 looks more accurate than UJ6300, particularly when they are displaying HDR contents.
The other difference between them but doesn’t have an effect on the picture quality is about remote. For this case, LG UJ6300 comes with LG’s standard remote while UJ7700 comes with LG’s magic remote. This certainly makes controlling TV features and navigating on smart TV feels easier and more comfortable on UJ7700 than UJ6300. Additionally, the number of their HDM is also different where UJ7000 comes with 4 HDMI ports while UJ6300 comes with 3 HDMI ports.

LG UJ6300 vs UJ7700 Performance
Both of LG UJ7700 and UJ6300 are not a good TV when used in a dark room. Since both of them have weak native contrast ratio and poor black uniformity, when set in a dark room, blacks of images will tend to look grey than actually black, makes the darker colors looks less accurate. This certainly makes the picture displayed on their screen looks less natural. Meanwhile, compare between them, contrast ratio of UJ6300 precisely is a bit stronger, makes it can reach a bit deeper black level than UJ700. But even so, what reached by UJ6300 is not still able to show dark scene of images excellently in a dark room.
Nevertheless, once they are set in a bright room where the effect of low native contrast ratio is reduced by ambient light, picture displayed on their screen will look far better. But unfortunately, this is just as true to in a room with natural indoor light, while in a room with very bright indoor light or sunny window, both of them will have another problem. This due they don’t have bright peak brightness and good reflection handling. This means, their peak brightness is not quite bright to fight the glare, makes the quality of the images is reduced by ambient light. Meanwhile, compare between them, with Ultra Luminance technology, UJ7700 has brighter peak luminance than UJ6300, makes the picture displayed looks more consistent than UJ6300 when set in bright room. Nevertheless, it is not still bright enough to fight the glare. Can be ascertained with low contrast ratio and weak peak brightness, both of them is only suitable when used in a room with natural indoor light and not suitable for a dark room or extremely bright room with very bright indoor light or sunny window.
Meanwhile, although both of them come with HDR technology, but with weak contrast ratio, both of them also cannot show the shadow details of HDR images like what intended. As we know, to show shadow details of HDR images like what intended, especially for HDR 10 videos, a HDR TV must have 0.05 nits or darker of black level. Meanwhile, with contrast ratio about 1300:1 for UJ6300 and 1150 for UJ7700, black level reached by them is not darker than this recommendation. On other hand, although UJ7700 comes with local dimming technology, its local dimming doesn’t effectively work to boost the contrast, even when its local dimming is enabled, its native contrast ratio tend to same to when its local dimming is disabled. On the other hand, when inputted by HDR signals, peak brightness reached by them is brighter, makes highlight of HDR images displayed on their screen look fairly good for their class. But like when they are inputted by SDR signals, LG UJ7700 also has brighter peak brightness than UJ6300. For UJ6300, due it doesn’t have local dimming, its peak brightness is tend to be consistent at 320 nits on all windows sizes. While for UJ7700, it has about 450 nits of peak brightness and its local dimming is effective to makes small window is far brighter, makes small highlight of HDR images looks fairly bright. But unfortunately, it is not bright enough to show highlight of HDR images like what intended. As we know, to show highlight of HDR images brighter than 1000 nits like what intended, particularly for HDR 10 videos, UHD alliance have set 1000 nits as the minimum recommendation.
Meanwhile, talking about their color performance, LG UJ7700 also has better color performance than UJ6300. UJ7700 can deliver wider color gamut than UJ6300, even it already supports wide color gamut for HDR videos. This means, although it is not as better as the higher series SJ8500 or high end TVs, it can properly show most of colors in DCI P3 color space of HDR images. Although some certain colors cannot be shown fully saturated, overall, colors of HDR images displayed on its screen looks fairly accurate. And of course, when showing colors in Rec.709 of SDR images, UJ7700 doesn’t encounter the significant problem. On the other hand, color gamut delivered by UJ6300 is only good enough to show colors in Rec.709 of SDR images. While when displaying HDR contents that need DCI P3 color space, some certain color will be significantly undersaturated and the most severe is green. Fortunately, it can properly show colors in its color gamut coverage, so the color of the HDR images displayed on its screen doesn’t looks too bad. While LG UJ7700 have wide color gamut that makes its renditions of colors is better than UJ6300, especially when displaying HDR images, on the other hand, both of them have similar color gradient. Overall, their color gradient is smooth and no many color banding visible, that means it is a good thing. Although some little imperfections might be still visible, but overall, this should not be a problem for most of people.
For anticipating the many videos with lower resolution which available in the market, both of LG UJ7700 and UJ6300 are equally equipped with great performance UHD Up-scaling engine named “Tru 4K UpScaler”. This allows you to enjoy video contents with any resolution in quality nearly 4K. No matter the resolution of video source, even low resolution videos like DVD movies with 480p resolution, the final images in 4K produced looks sharp and clear. And the higher resolution of the source like HD movies with 720p resolution or Blu Ray movies with 1080p resolution, the final image in 4K produced looks clearer and sharper with small details are preserved better. Not even just that, both of them also has “HDR Effect” feature where when it is enabled, it can improve the brightness and color range of the source, so you can enjoy any videos in quality as close as possible to 4K HDR.
The use of IPS panel might make both of LG UJ7700 and UJ6300 have weak native contrast ratio, but on the other hand, this makes them have wide side viewing angle coverage. Although not as wide as OLED TV, but this certainly makes the quality of picture looks consistently if viewed from side viewing angle. If on VA panel, the quality of the picture usually will looks degraded started at 20 degrees off center and front, on their screen, the picture will look more consistent, even from wider side viewing angle. This certainly makes both of them as a good option to be used in a wide room with viewers watch from multiple viewing angles.
From all we have discussed a lot, overall, picture quality of UJ7700 is better than UJ6300, especially on their peak brightness and renditions of colors. This certainly makes the color of the picture displayed on the screen of UJ7700 looks more accurate than UJ6300, particularly on some certain colors and when they are displaying HDR videos. Additionally, its brighter peak brightness also makes its HDR performance is better than UJ6300. Nevertheless, for its class, the picture produced by UJ6300 also can be said well, as long as you don’t use it in a dark room or bright room with very bright indoor light.
Motion handling and 24p Playback
For maximizing its performance when playing fast motion images like sports or fast movies, both of LG UJ6300 and UJ7700 are powered by TruMotion 120Hz based on native 60 Hz refresh rate panel. Additionally, although not the fastest in its class, both of them also have similar fast response time. Combination of its fast responsive time and Tru Motion 120 technology behind them makes the picture displayed looks clear and smooth with not many motion blur visible. Following the fast moving object, there is only a short trail where this should not be a problem for most of people. Meanwhile, when playing 24p movies, both of them also have similar performance. They can show the movies with judder-free only if the source is 24p movies like Blu Ray Movies, while when the source is 24p videos via 60p/60i signal like movies from streaming device or satellite TV, they cannot completely remove the judder. Fortunately, most of people don’t notice about the judder, so this should not be a serious problem for them.
As their major connectivity, LG UJ6300 is equipped with 3 HDMI ports (HDCP 2.2), while UJ7700 is equipped with a bit more HDMI ports, those are 4 HDMI ports. The excepting of the number of HDMI ports, both of them are equipped with similar inputs/outputs. There are 2 USB Ports, 1 RF In, 1 Composite In (AV In), 1 Component In, and 1 Digital Audio Out (Optical). Meanwhile, talking about their input lags, both of LG UJ7700 and UJ6300 also have extremely low input lags at any resolution under “Game Mode” and “PC Mode”, even lower than most of TVS which available in the market. With about 12 ms of input lags at 1080p or 4k inputs, this certainly makes playing game on LG UJ7700 or UJ6300 feels very comfortably and responsively, even for fast paced games which require fast reflexes.
As their smart TV platform, both of LG UJ6300 and UJ7700 feature WebOS 3.5, the 2017 version of WebOS. One of the advantages of WebOS, it has a lot of low level options for controlling the TV. Nevertheless, although it has many low level options, the navigation is still easy. On its home screen, there is a strip bar contains a lot of most useful apps and features, allow you to launch one of them without leaving the home screen. Additionally, its performance is also fast and responsive. Once you launch an app, it will open quickly. Switching between opened apps also feel responsively. Meanwhile, talking about apps provided, there are a lot of interesting apps installed as their preloaded apps. There are VoD apps like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and many more, Web Browser, Socializing apps, Games, and many more. Not even just that, there is also LG’s apps store that provides tons of interesting and useful downloadable apps where you can directly download them from your LG TV.
A bit difference between LG UJ7700 and UJ6300 is about their controller. For this case, LG UJ6300 comes with standard remote while UJ7700 comes with LG’s Magic Remote. The advantage of LG Remote, it has a lot of smart features like Voice navigation, Point and Click Functionality, and Universal Control Capability, makes navigating feels easier. Meanwhile, lack of some smart features make navigating on UJ6300 is not as easy and comfort as on UJ7700.
|Performance||LG UJ7700||LG UJ6300|
As we have discussion a lot above, the major advantage of LG UJ7700 as a higher series than UJ6300 is about their picture quality where UJ7700 has better picture quality and HDR performance than UJ6300. This is due it has better renditions of colors and brighter peak luminance. Nevertheless, overall, for each of their class, quality of the picture displayed on each of their screen is fairly good for its class. But unfortunately, since both of them have low native contrast ratio and weak peak brightness, both of them are not suitable when used in a dark room or a bright room with very bright indoor light. On the other hand, since both of them have wide side viewing angle, this makes both of them are good TVs when used in a wide room with viewers come watch from multiple angles. The other advantage that offered by UJ7700 as a higher series, it has a bit more the number of HDMI ports and is equipped with LG’s magic remote as its controller.
So, which is a better choice between them? Considering the features and performance offered by them, the decision certainly comes back to your budget and preference. If you don’t mind to spend more tens to hundreds dollar of your money, UJ7700 certainly is a better choice for you. Nevertheless, if budget is your main consideration, LG UJ6300 is also not a bad choice. But even so, before you decide to choose one of them, there are a lot of opinions from the people who have purchased one of them where you can make as your further consideration.
